Privacy Policy
Effective date: . The short version: Headroom does not collect any data about you. Your music stays on your device.
Data we collect
None. Headroom has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no servers of its own. The developer does not receive any information about you, your music library or how you use the app.
Your music library
- Music you import (for example from iCloud Drive or the Files app) is copied into Headroom's storage on your iPhone and plays offline.
- Music on a USB drive plays directly from the drive while it is connected. Headroom only reads these files; it never changes or deletes anything on the drive.
- Your library, playback position, settings and any corrected track details are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes this data.
- If you use iCloud Drive, the files you import are handled by Apple's iCloud under Apple's own privacy policy. Headroom only reads the files you choose.
Optional online lookup
Headroom can look up missing album covers and track details, but only when you start a lookup yourself. The first time, the app asks for your permission and explains what happens. During a lookup:
- Track recognition (Shazam): Headroom computes a short audio signature from a few seconds of the track. The signature is a fingerprint, not a recording, and cannot be turned back into audio. It is sent to Apple's Shazam service to identify the song.
- Track details (Apple Music catalog): Using the identified song, Headroom reads the album, track number, year and cover from the Apple Music catalog. iOS asks for permission to access Apple Music the first time. An Apple Music subscription is not required, and Headroom does not read your Apple Music library or listening history.
- Covers: The cover image is downloaded from Apple's servers.
These requests go only to Apple, through Apple's own frameworks (ShazamKit and MusicKit), and are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. Nothing is sent to the developer or to any other third party. You review every proposed change before it is saved, and your audio files themselves are never modified.
If you never use the lookup, Headroom does not connect to the internet.
Motion and head tracking
To animate the visualizations, Headroom uses your iPhone's motion sensors and, if connected, the head tracking of compatible AirPods. iOS asks for permission to access motion data the first time it is needed. This data is processed on your device only while a visualization uses it. It is never stored and never leaves your device.
Playback and output devices
Headroom shows the name of the current audio output (for example your AirPods or an AirPlay speaker) and lets you choose another one through the standard iOS picker. This information stays on your device.
Children
Headroom does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
